       Trivia note: There are two memorable segments in this story that Michael wrote and directed, which are reminiscent of his childhood life with his mentally ill mother.

       In the first one, Marge is conversing with her son Gary, while he is grabbing some pizza in the kitchen and then she loses her mind and sticks her head inside the oven door with the gas off.

       At the conclusion, Mark tells Marge that Gary's girlfriend has given birth to a baby boy and is marrying her son. While Mark is still talking cheerfully about Alice to her at the kitchen table, he glances away for a moment, as she runs over to the oven and without turning the gas on, she sticks her head in it.

       Mark finally looks at where she was speaking to him, from across the table, sitting down, and sees she's no longer there and turns his head and stares in bewilderment as she's gassing herself.

       Then she realizes there's no gas coming out, reaches her hand up and turns up the gas knob at full speed ahead to gas herself to oblivion.

       Trivia Note: Michael had a penchant for the name Alice. In the 1972 "Bonanza" episode "Forever", Joe's love interest is the shy and beautiful Alice Harper, played by Bonnie Bedelia.

       In April of 1973, he worked on his first post-"Bonanza" project which was "Love Story" a romance-drama series for NBC.

       He wrote and directed the pilot episode, "Love Came Laughing". Bonnie Bedelia was hired to portray Alice Hartman in the story.

       In this "Highway" story Michael hired actress Lorie Griffin to portray the shy and beautiful Alice Hartman, who falls in love with Gary.

       Michael loved to use the name Alice in his work on television. Many young ladies in his TV series he scripted as being shy in nature, just as he was himself.
