       Trivia note: The opening credits that open up the pilot are of Jonathan walking along Dawn Road, at Tucson, Arizona. They are later seen at the conclusion of the pilot.

       Trivia note: David Rose scores the "Highway to Heaven" theme cue for the opening title of the pilot. His soulful and emotionally moving theme cue is pure genius.

       Dennis Korn, CEO of Michael Landon Productions, sold the series to Genesis for syndicated reruns for US and worldwide airplay in 1988. Michael and Kent had to take the original negatives and soundtracks and transfer them to Betacam and then make a syndication set from the master set they initially made. They had to make edits and some alterations with the pilot film, since television stations demand airtime for commercials.

       They duplicated the pilot in its original feature-length and also made a two-part version for daily airplay. They took the 1987-88 music cues by David Rose and redubbed the closing titles for the ending of part one and part two of the syndicated pilot film. The original pilot was made and aired as one story, with no edits or alterations of any kind. The running time of the pilot film was 96 minutes in length.

       They also took the 1984 opening titles from the pilot film and the second episode filmed for the beginning titles to open part two of the syndicated pilot. The end titles of both parts list the players in both parts of this two-part version, where the feature-length pilot version has only three players listed. The end titles of the feature-length pilot they also redubbed with the 1987-88 music cue by David Rose.

       Michael and Kent had to edit all 109 episodes of the series in 1988, including the feature-length pilot film for the syndication deal with Genesis Entertainment in Los Angeles. They only own the distribution rights for US and worldwide airplay. The televised reruns of "Highway to Heaven" commenced on September of 1989 for local stations across the United States.

       The opening and closing titles in "Highway to Heaven" are accompanied by the graceful cloud shots seen in every episode. The footage of the clouds was bought from a stock house in Los Angeles by Michael Landon and Kent McCray.

       Trivia note: Mark's smoking habit is brought up once again, as he's about to light one, while Jonathan is driving, who scorns him saying, "Come on, there you go with the cigarette again". Mark answers in rebuttal saying, "Will you leave me alone? It's my vacation. It's a beautiful day. Let me enjoy myself."

       The Boss quickly puts it out by making it rain heavily in the car, right on Mark's baseball hat, who looks over at Jonathan and blames him.

       Mark: "Thanks a lot."

       Jonathan: "I didn't do it."

       Mark: "You mean?"

       Jonathan: "Mmhmm."

       Mark: "You know, he must really care a lot about me, the way he worries about me?"

       Jonathan: "Could be."

       Mark: "What do you mean, could be? Why else would he put my cigarette out like that?"

       Jonathan:"Well, maybe he's not so anxious to have you up there."

       In another attempt, Mark is fishing on the lake and becomes frustrated with no fishing results, saying, "Oh, come on. I mean a premo spot in the lake of nothing!"

       Stressed out, he reaches in his jacket for his pack and pulls a cigarette out and as he's about to light it, the Boss makes the fishing pole fly out from between his feet, since he has both hands full. The pole flies into the water, with a frantic Mark trying to retrieve it, saying, "Oh, no!...oh...oh, no,...oh. Why me God?"

       Then he gets upset and goes to light it again and the winds suddenly comes up and blows the flame of his lighter out. He finally suspects God is behind this and says, "That's why? Alright, I quit."

       Mark tries a third time, when he gets some change from a dollar bill, than walks out to the cigarette machine, puts the coins in, and opens the pack up. He pulls out a folded piece of white paper that says:

       Breaking promises can be hazardous to your health.
